The Joining Jack Legends will don their rugby boots once again later his month to take part in the Emirates Dubai Rugby 7s.

Former Wigan Warriors favourite Pat Richards is among the names in the star-studded heading out for the squad’s sixth crack at the competition.

He is among a clutch of legends – including former dual-code star and World Cup winner Jason Robinson – who will be representing Joining Jack and raising awareness and vital funds for the charity captained once again by former Wigan favourite and Jack’s dad Andy Johnson.

Andy said: “It’s great to have Pat on board. He was obviously at Wigan when we set up Joining Jack, so he knows what the charity is about and what we’re trying to achieve, and he was keen to help.

"He’s now reached the age that he qualifies to play – we’re in the over-35 category – and we’re looking forward to having him in the team.”

This is the sixth year Joining Jack has entered a team, featuring some of the most famous names from both codes of rugby, into this prestigious event as part of Joining Jack’s ongoing fight to raise money and awareness in the fight to find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Last year’s trip to Dubai raised more than £100,000, and Andy, along with his wife and the charity's co-founder Alex, are hoping this year's trip will be equally successful.

Andy added: “To raise more than £100,000 last year was an incredible achievement which is really helping us make a huge difference.

“There are a number of projects at the moment that are looking really promising and the money we raise from the tournament will go to research that is the most likely to result in a treatment reaching the patients as soon as possible.

“We couldn’t do this without the help of the players and our sponsors, they put a lot time and effort into helping us and we are so thankful to them all for their support.”

The squad along with their supporters and team mascot Jack, fly out at the end of November to compete in the intensive three-day invitation-only event and you can follow their progress via our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
